The Myth of Multitasking: Why Doing it All gets you Nowhere

Published on 8 October 2025 at 13:04

We live in a world where “busy” seems like a badge of honour. Many people believe the more they do at once - checking emails while eating breakfast, texting during workouts, juggling work and home tasks - the more productive they are.
But here’s the truth: multitasking doesn’t make you more efficient- it actually slows you down.

1. Your brain can’t truly multitask

You might think you’re doing several things at once, but your brain isn’t built that way. It doesn’t process tasks simultaneously - it constantly switches between them.
this “task-switching” burns more energy, increases stress, and leads to more mistakes.

2. Multitasking kills focus

When your attention is divided, you never give your best to anything. Whether it’s your training, work, or time with your family - multitasking keeps you half-present everywhere.
👉🏼 Try giving one task your full focus - you’ll finish faster and with better results.

3. It affects your mental health

Constantly jumping between tasks increases stress hormones like cortisol. That’s why multitasking often leaves you feeling exhausted even if you didn’t accomplish much. Your mind needs moments of focus and calm - not chaos.

4. Quality over Quantity wins every time

You don’t need to do more - you need to do what matters better.
Focus on one workout instead of three half-hearted ones. Cook one nourishing meal instead of eating on the go.
Be 100% present in each moment - it’s more effective and far more fulfilling.

5. How to break the Multitasking habit

  • Turn off notifications while working or training
  • Set clear blocks of time for one thing only.
  • Take short breaks between tasks instead of mixing them.
  • Practice mindfulness - focus on your breath, your food, your movement

Multitasking feels productive - but it’s often the reason we feel tired, distracted, and unfulfilled. When you learn to slow down and give your full attention to one thing at a time, you’ll get better results in your fitness, your work and your overall wellbeing.

🫵🏼 Remember: you don’t need to do everything at once. You just need to do what matters- fully.
